You are looking at our 1967 Fender Coronado II guitar, serial number 188055. The color is Fender #504 Firemist Gold.

The Coronado Guitar was Fender's effort to capture some of Gibson's ES Series of thin-line acoustic/electric guitar business. It most closely competes in terms of design and features with the Gibson ES330. Fender hired renowned German luthier, Roger Rossmeisl to design this instrument. Roger also had worked at Rickenbacker before going to Fender. This marks the first occasion that a Fender guitar was NOT designed by Fender.

Some of the features of this Fender Coronado II are a thin hollow-body with a one-piece laminated maple arched top and back. The sides are also of laminated maple. The bound neck is a bolt (screw)-on of hard-rock maple with a rosewood fingerboard and block inlays. The body, F-holes and neck are all bound. Pickups are single coil by DeArmond. Another first for Fender using a non-Fender Pick-up. The machine heads are Fender Nickel plated by Kluson.

The color is a very rare Fender #504 Firemist Gold Dupont Lucite lacquer. Like any 41 year old instrument, this Coronado II shows some signs of wear of a well-played guitar, BUT with no abuse or misuse. In fact, as you can see, it is in surprisingly good condition for its age. It has been recently set up and plays and sounds very good. Everything works properly and is original; except for the Trem handle, which was missing and recently replaced..

The finish is lightly marked with some lacquer checks as is common with nitrocellulose lacquers used by guitar manufacturers back in the day. As well, there are a few scratches and chips you might expect in a working guitar.. Over all, I would rate this Fender Coronado II a solid 8.5 out of 10.
