Differential Equations With Linear Algebra Boelkins Solutions Manual

Free Mathematics Textbooks

24 CHAPTER 1. Linear Equations in Linear Algebra. For your information: The unique solution of this equation is (5, 7, 3). Finding the solution by hand would be time-consuming. Note: The skill of writing a vector equation as a matrix equation will be important for both theory and application throughout the text.

Mathematics belongs to humankind! Furthermore, college textbooks are expensive.

In an effort to help reduce textbook costs and to bring the beauty of mathematics to the minds of students, the Carroll College math department is working to write FREE open source textbooks for the Calculus, Statistics, Mathematical Modeling, and several other classes. The content from the books promote active, hands-on learning and are designed to help build content knowledge as well as intuition and problem solving. These books are available to anyone who wants to use them! Presently, the MA121, MA122, MA131, MA141, MA207, MA315, MA334, and MA342 classes are all using textbooks of this format.

Active Calculus

We use the freely available Active Calculus textbook for MA121, MA122, and MA131. The text is authored by Matt Boelkins at Grand Valley State University in Michigan. The text is endorsed by the American Institute of Mathematics and is a freely available and open source text under a creative commons license.

  • YouTube videos associated with each section of the book.(Created by professors at Grand Valley State)
  • Chapter 0 - Preliminaries: In this chapter we provide review resources for Pre-Calculus materials necessary for success in Calculus.

MA 207 and MA 315: Probability and Statistics

Currently we're using the OpenIntro Statistics Project in our MA207 and MA315 courses. Other free and open source materials associated with our statistics program can be found at mathquest.carroll.edu/activestats/.

MA 141 and 334: Differential Equations and Linear Algebra

Currently we're using the open source materials created by Dr. Eric Sullivan. Contact Dr. Sullivan for the latest copy.

MA 342: Numerical Analysis

Questions?

If you have questions or are interested in the source code for any of the open source textbook projects please contact Dr. Eric Sullivan at esullivan@carroll.edu. Please note that these books are living documents and may change semester by semester.
